PVH Hospitality Deli

The company behind world famous brands such as Tommy Hilfiger & Calvin Klein is currently building a campus in the Nieuwe Houthavens in Amsterdam. In order to serve the 2,500 employees in regards of food, Standard Studio was asked to design the new Deli within the campus for PVH Hospitality, People’s Place.

Under the flag of People’s Place, once the name of the first Tommy Hilfiger store, today standing for the in-house food & beverage branch of PVH, the Deli serves daily freshly prepared sandwiches, paninis, a different assortment of soups and salads in addition to a wide range of drinks, yogurts and other kinds of food.

Inspired by the Italian delicacies from New York, the home of Tommy Hilfiger, the basis of the Deli is an island made of natural hardstone where all the fresh goods are offered. The island is positioned in such a way that during lunchtime, rush hour, a good flow is established to avoid long queues. The island layout is organized that with the offer, the populair ones have the most space. Extra space was added here so the people that are doubting while choosing have extra space in order to avoid a cue. Through the soups, fruit, sandwiches and paninis you will get to the salad bar and end up at the self scan cash registers. Afterwords you step into a large space where it is possible to sit down and enjoy your purchase. Here also a coffee bar can be found.

In order to make the Deli Island as visible and strong as possible, it is completely executed as a monolith in Travertine, an Italian limestone. Built in is the cooling for the sandwiches and the fruit. In addition to the cooling, the island has three service points for service, dispensing soups, salads and paninis. These points are recognizable counters made of brass and glass. With the use of glass and thin profiles a good look of the fresh product is always guaranteed.

To further increase visibility of the counter, a light object is designed in oak wood above the island. The timber construction is carried out with great care in detail with various wood connections creating a rich appearance. Behind the wire glass an interpretation of the characteristic mat glass bulb lamps of a Deli can be found. With a modern touch the Tala Porcelain III lamps and brass fittings will do the job. Working with travertine, brass and the use of oak wood, the design of the Deli fits well within the look & feel of the campus & People’s Place.

The authentic feel of a Deli has been further translated into the wall with chilled goods. Here a very sophisticad wall cladding can be found in the Rombini tiles manufactured by the Italian brand Mutina. The design of the Triangle 3D tile by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec creates a relief which creates a beautiful shadow play on the wall. A second reference to the original Deli’s lights is the use and repetition of the Flos IC lights in which the matte sphere and the brass are also noticable.

In addition to all fresh products, there is also an offer of dry goods. Because the location is enclosed with glass walls, two furniture sales crosses have been placed separately in the room. The design is related to the same wood detailing as the light sculpture. The sales crosses and the payment unit are further accentuated with the Microspy lamps from Deltalight.
